Blacktop Paving · Madison, WI
Premium blacktop surfaces laid with attention to mix temperature, roll pattern, and edge finish, so what you get is uniform end to end.
Overview
Blacktop and asphalt describe the same material, but the word blacktop is usually what people say when appearance matters as much as durability. That comes down to craft: consistent mix temperature, an even mat thickness, a disciplined roll pattern that does not leave marks, and clean hand work where the machine cannot reach. We treat the finish as part of the job, not an afterthought, because a driveway is the first thing anyone sees when they pull up to your property.

Questions
No. They are the same material. Blacktop is the common name, asphalt is the technical one. Some people use blacktop specifically for residential drives and asphalt for larger commercial work, but the material is the same.
Fresh blacktop can show sheen variation as the oils settle, especially in sun. It evens out over the first few months. Persistent dark wet-looking patches are worth a call, and we will come look.
Yes, all asphalt oxidizes from black to gray over a few years. Sealcoating every two to three years brings the color back and protects the binder underneath.
